Remarkables Park growth continues in Queenstown

Planned growth at Queenstown’s Remarkables Park is continuing with the development of new roads to service expanding development.

The new roads – a $600,000 project in their own right – will be an extension of Copper Beech Avenue to a new road connecting to the Remarkables Park Town Centre to the north and future medium density residential to the south. These roads will immediately provide a direct connection to a new childcare facility under construction and future residential.

The Childcare facility is being built by established operator Zig Zag Zoo for 75 pre-school children, sited to the south of the existing Remarkables Park Town Centre.

The roof of the new ‘Zoo 2’ building started going on last week, and the framing of the building is already complete. Owner-operator Mike Stewart said it was “hugely exciting” to see the building coming together as its scheduled mid-June opening approaches.

“We went through an incredibly beneficial design process having Remarkables Park work with us,” he said.

“It was just a pleasure to work with an experienced developer who is ever helpful and constantly prepared to go the extra mile at no additional cost to us.

“We provided our ultimate design and Remarkables Park Ltd custom-designed the perfect piece of land to fit it, meaning we weren’t restricted to a piece of land or having to pay for unnecessary land, quite a unique process.

“The whole building is aligned to maximize our north-facing aspect towards Coronet Peak and the sun, and to provide sheltered outdoor play space.

“We’ve got larger outdoor play areas than are required, and well-designed car parking with entry and egress that are very well thought out, utilising our ideal corner location.

“The height of our roofline and placement of windows are all designed for specific reasons, and to help maximize a healthy and quiet environment for the warmth and comfort of the children and staff. Every part of it is designed the way it is for a specific reason.”

Mr Stewart said the new ‘Zoo 2’ would feature three distinct play rooms for under-two’s, two to three-year-olds, and over-three’s. He anticipates being about 50% full on opening day and said enrolments were open now on admin@zigzagzoo.co.nz.

Remarkables Park Ltd director Alastair Porter said the new childcare facility was an important facility for Remarkables Park Town Centre as it would help store owners to more easily secure working parents as staff at Remarkables Park Town Centre, as well as being “perfect” for the many working families in the immediate residential area.

‘Our master plan provides for a childcare facility to be established next to the Remarkables Park Town Centre so we’re delighted to have an established quality operator like Zig Zag Zoo provide this service,” he said.

“As with all our developments, a lot of thought and planning has gone into not only working directly with the new tenants, but into the logistics of roading and parking.

“The new road will serve a dual purpose in providing the easiest access possible from two directions to the childcare centre.”

The development of the new roading and childcare centre at the 150ha ‘master planned’ Remarkables Park Zone is yet another step in Remarkables Park Ltd’s plan to more than double the size of the Remarkables Park Town Centre.

These plans are also being supported by DNZ, a major owner of buildings within the Remarkables Park Town Centre where DNZ is also underway with the development of most of its remaining site at the entrance to the existing Centre. Their new 900sqm building will house a range of retail and service tenants.
