Riders Online With Motorcycle Alley

Press release:

Riders Online With Motorcycle Alley

Two Hawke's Bay motorcycle enthusiasts have kick-started a dedicated motorcycle trading website and it is beginning to click up through the gears as word continues to spread across the country.

It is Motorcycle Alley, a site sparked by Pete Roberts and Kate Grindrod through their shared loved of motorcycling, and the desire to make it easier and more cost effective for all like-minded enthusiasts, be they individuals, businesses or clubs, to get the word out to other riders about what they may be selling, looking to buy or looking to stage.

It came about in the spring of 2012 after Kate had gone on-line to try and find some riding gear.

``She started talking about how good it would be if there was a site for womens' bike gear, and I started to look into it,'' Mr Roberts said.

The more he looked the more he became convinced that an easy-to-access, comprehensive one stop site for motorcyclists to buy and sell bikes and gear was needed. An exclusive site for motorcycling.

So they set to work, and launched the first format of Motorcycle Alley last November, revamping and stepping it up around Christmas. Mr Roberts said one of his prime aims was to provide a site which would greatly reduce the costs of selling bikes, parts and gear.

``It's not about making money, it's more my passion,'' he said. “I just wanted to put something together for bikes to put something back into motorcycling and the community.''

As well as providing a site where motorcyclists could buy, sell or find something they were after, the couple wanted to make it interactive and user-friendly. ``You click on what you want and it's there.''

The site is growing, with more than 500 listings now and an increasing number of dealers, private sellers and motorcycle clubs are hopping aboard the latter to get the word out about events being staged.

There is a buy and sell section, new and used bikes, motorcycle parts and riding gear, wanted to buy, club events, tours, services, industry links even a stolen bike register which is supported by motorcycle insurance companies who will be listing stolen bikes as they are reported to them.

``Our aim is for every person or dealer to check the stolen bike register prior to purchasing a motorcycle to ensure that it has not been listed as stolen. This will make it much harder for thieves to profit from stolen motorcycles and hopefully make stealing such items less attractive.''

New sections are being developed which include a forum section which will be `live' in the next couple of months. ``It is everything to do with motorcycling.''

The bonus for the buying and selling individuals at this stage was that all listings are free.

Basic listings will always be free but in time premium listings with photographs, will carry a charge but Mr Roberts said it would be minimal. ``Between $5 and $10...no more for a motorcycle.'' And there were special rates for motorcycle dealers who wanted to list their bikes and goods in bulk.

Event listings would always be free, Mr Roberts said.

``It's about motorcycling. I love it (he has a sweet Harley-Davidson Night Train) and I want to make it easy for all motorcyclists to find what they are looking for.''
