Issues Paper for Services Sector Inquiry

Productivity Commission Issues Paper for Services Sector Inquiry

Following the launch of the inquiry into Boosting Productivity in the Services Sector in late March, the Productivity Commission has now released an issues paper for discussion, attached for your information.

The New Zealand economy is largely based on services. The services sector produces around 70% of GDP and provides a wide array of service products that are consumed by both private individuals and firms across the economy. Services-sector productivity, therefore, strongly affects the wellbeing of New Zealanders and the total productivity of the economy. Raising the level and growth of productivity in the services sector is fundamental to reducing the productivity gap between New Zealand and other high-income countries.

We are seeking submissions on the issues paper over the next month. The final inquiry report will be delivered to Government in February 2014. This paper along with all other inquiry documents can be found at www.productivity.govt.nz/inquiry-content/services-sector.
