Innovation & Smart Mining at Minerals West Coast Forum 2013

23 April 2013

Innovation and Smart Mining at Minerals West Coast Forum 2013

Nominations are open for the inaugural Environmental Award as part of the focus on innovation and smart mining at the West Coast Minerals Forum 2013, from 17 to 18 July, at Shantytown, Greymouth.

Increasingly, the exploration and mining industry faces the challenge of how to access difficult-to-mine resources safely and cost-effectively in tough economic times. Technology and innovation are key drivers of success as the mineral industry responds to these challenges.

Attending the forum is Minister of Energy and Resources, Hon. Simon Bridges, to open proceedings and deliver the keynote speech.

This year’s forum aims to share ideas and examples of the application and role of technology and innovation in the mineral sector. The forum will host a trade exhibition and presentations from industry players in innovation including: exploration and mining operations, human resources, economics and policy, engineering, environment and health & safety.

The Minerals West Coast Annual General Meeting and Goldminers Association AGM will be held as part of the forum, along with a networking event by Women in Mining New Zealand (WIMNZ).

AustmineNZ [1] will host an Australian delegation of Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) companies and a business-matching event on 17 July.

The inaugural Minerals West Coast Forum Environment Award will be presented as part of the forum. This is an award for the strongest overall demonstration of environmental management by a New Zealand minerals sector organisation or project – to be presented at the Minerals West Coast Forum dinner on the evening of 18 July.

The organising body of the Minerals West Coast Forum - Minerals West Coast - was established in 2005 to increase the community benefits of this major sector of the West Coast economy. The Forum grew so popular in 2012 that Minerals West Coast joined forces with Straterra, the industry group representing the New Zealand mineral sector, to take the forum to the next level this year.

Registration for the Minerals West Coast Forum is now open at www.mineralswestcoast.co.nz. Companies interested in using this opportunity to promote their business by exhibiting or sponsoring sessions at the forum should contact Geena Kumar at Straterra by phone 04 909 7301 or email geena@straterra.co.nz.

[1] Austmine is an Australian Mining equipment, Technology and Services (METS) industry association. Straterra holds the secretariat for AustmineNZ where members can connect with global mining opportunities through worldwide networks at Austmine events, seminars and workshops, national and international exhibitions and conferences and mining missions.
