Vivid Solutions Appoints Miles Smith as Interim Chief Executive

Auckland, 24 April 2013 - Specialist video conferencing company, Vivid Solutions, has appointed Miles Smith as its interim Chief Executive following the resignation of CEO, Simon Hayden.

Vivid Solutions Chairperson, Patricia Wright, says Smith, an existing Vivid Solutions manager, will lead the Vivid team and work with the Board as it plans and implements a new management structure.

“Miles is ideally placed to take over the reins of the company during this time. He has been with Vivid Solutions since 2005 and currently has responsibility for managing Vivid Solutions infrastructure and systems. He has helped build Vivid’s reputation for secure, reliable video conferencing services and is well known to customers and suppliers.”

Hayden, who was one of the founders of Vivid Solutions, will continue to maintain strong links with the company. “Simon has accepted a Director position on the Board of Vivid Solutions, where he will provide ongoing assistance in managing the intellectual property assets of the company,” says Wright.

“On behalf of the Board I thank Simon for his leadership. During his time at Vivid Solutions he has grown the company to be the leading provider of video conferencing services to the New Zealand health sector.”

Wright says Vivid began as a not for profit company established by the NZ TelePaediatric Service. It launched its video conference network in 2003 with eight connected video conference units.

“This grew to 30 units by mid-2004 at which time a mental health-based network was developed. By 2006, the service moved from a paediatric provider to a broad-based supplier of video conferencing services with over 130 units operating nationally.”

Today, the service has over 270 highly secure conferencing endpoints around the country located in DHBs, the Ministry of Health, university medical schools and a number of Primary and Community Health Organisations. The company has helped design and deliver a number of key community health solutions, such as ‘Hospital to Home’, mobile video conferencing for clinicians and renal telemedicine support across multiple regions.

Wright says Vivid’s highly sophisticated and secure video conferencing network has become a vital communication tool in the efficient management of clinical and health administration teams within the Ministry and DHBs.

“It has helped cut administration travel costs at the Ministry by up to 30% and physicians now embrace the possibilities of the technology. Its ability to concentrate decision making in real time, virtually anywhere in the country, is resulting in more efficient use of both human and physical resources and is improving patient outcomes.”
