Citygate to Be Called PwC Centre

Media release: 1 May 2013

Citygate to Be Called PwC Centre

Citygate anchor tenant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has taken out naming rights on the new development on the corner of Ward and Anglesea streets in Hamilton.

To be known as the PwC Centre, it is the first new office building in the Hamilton CBD for several years and will transform a site that has been vacant for 17 years.

“Commitment on this scale by an organisation the calibre of PwC reinforces the development’s prominence,” says Aidan Donnelly, Senior Development Manager, McConnell Property. “We’re delighted that this development is contributing to the CBD’s revitalisation.”

Waikato Office Managing Partner Roger Wilson says, “We, at PwC, are proud to be reinforcing our commitment to the region by signing up to this landmark, four-star green-rated build.

"Waikato and Hamilton are undergoing a boom, while nationally, the economy has long been spluttering. With a new port, roads, jobs, a rejuvenating town centre with upgraded malls, shops and eateries, it's one of New Zealand's fastest growing cities.

"PwC wants to be part of the Waikato region's success, and as such, we are further putting down deep roots and investing in our own people and the local community. It is important for us to play our part where we work, live and play.

“The Citygate build is an important component in the revitalisation of Hamilton city centre. We're thrilled to be part of a development that's been billed to serve as a gateway to the heart of the city centre," concludes Mr Wilson.

Mr Donnelly says the building’s high-profile corner location is a key part of the PwC Centre’s attraction. “The vibrant building and its sunlit north-facing plaza will become a landmark for the city centre. As many as 400 PwC Centre people, 20,000 Wintec students and staff, and the Hamilton community will be able to enjoy these new and exciting spaces.”

The five-storey, 5300sqm building has four levels of office space designed to provide a modern, comfortable and resource-efficient environment for up to 400 staff. The ground floor, a mix of office and retail, opens onto 738sqm of landscaped public space.

Southern Cross Health Society recently confirmed its tenancy in the new building. The PwC Centre, which is now 95% leased, is due for completion in early July 2013. Only 235sqm of office space and four retail tenancies remain.
