Mercury Energy welcomes positive EGCC report

Mercury Energy welcomes the release of the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commission Annual Report, which illustrates a massive improvement in industry performance.

Mercury Energy General Manager, James Munro, says the fact that complaints to the Commission have fallen by 24% shows that efforts by the industry to better meet customer expectations were paying off.

“For Mercury Energy, innovation and advances in technology are enabling us to offer products that are designed to better suit customers’ needs. We place a strong emphasis on building positive relationships with our customers and working to ensure they are happy with the service we provide, and this shows through clearly in our individual figures in the EGCC Annual Report,” he said.

“Making the EGCC Scheme mandatory in 2010, and the subsequent proactive promotion of the Scheme by the industry, initially increased the EGCC’s recording of customer complaints. However, I agree with the Commissioner that this growth did not indicate increasing problems with the industry and that, as Judi [the Commissioner] states, the best indicator of success for the EGCC is to have the need for its services reduce. This is a good result for customers and for the industry,” said Mr Munro.
