Deloitte appoints 10 new partners

Appointments a reflection of firm’s growth

Deloitte is pleased to announce the appointment of ten new equity partners, which brings the Firm’s total number of equity partners across its six offices in New Zealand to 89.

Deloitte New Zealand Chief Executive Thomas Pippos says the extent of appointments is unprecedented in recent years. It reflects the growth we have been able to achieve following the GFC and the confidence that we have as to the future.

“The appointment of the new partners enables us to better respond to market demands by bolstering our capability and by adding both depth and breadth to our service offerings,” says Mr Pippos.

Six of the new partners are effective from 1 June. They are Consulting partners Darren Wood (Wellington) and Hamish Wilson (Auckland); Corporate Finance partners Linda Meade (Wellington) and Richard Dorset (Auckland); Tax and Māori Services Group partner Mark Lash (Wellington); Deloitte Private partner Hilton Joll (Hamilton); and from 1 July, Enterprise Risk Services partner Catherine Waugh (Wellington).

An additional three partners were appointed earlier this fiscal year – Deloitte Private and Māori Services Group partners Murray Patchell and John McRae (Rotorua) in March 2013; and Consulting partner Steve Law (Christchurch) on 1 December 2012.

“Our new partners bring a range of skills to their roles and underscore Deloitte’s absolute commitment to delivering the highest level of service to our clients,” says Mr Pippos.

Darren Wood is an enterprise business systems specialist. With a 13-year track record, Darren works closely with clients to deliver technology enabled business transformation, across both the private and public sectors.

Hamish Wilson’s area of expertise is Human Capital (HC). He returned to New Zealand in 2010 after spending a decade working in the HC field for Deloitte UK. Hamish has extensive organisational transformation experience, covering the spectrum of HC issues, and will lead Deloitte’s HC practice in New Zealand.

Linda Meade balances a broad finance skill-set with a deep understanding of ‘value’ in its many guises. Over the past 15 years Linda has built particular expertise working with the public sector, especially in relation to infrastructure, structuring innovative deals with the private sector to deliver better services to New Zealanders.

Richard Dorset’s focus is corporate finance, namely buy-side and sell-side due diligence, transaction assistance and investigating accountant reviews. He also has significant experience providing advisory services in the dairy sector.

Mark Lash is a tax specialist, providing domestic and international solutions and advice. Of Ngāi Tahu descent, Mark also has an interest in tax and commercial issues facing Māori businesses and iwi organisations and is an active member of our Māori Services Group.

Hilton Joll is dedicated to working with SMEs to develop and grow their businesses. His strengths include management reporting and business structuring. He also has a particular focus on the agribusiness and property sectors.

Catherine Waugh has over 20 years’ experience in the technology industry both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. During that time she has built an impressive reputation in information and technology risk management as a partner in another Big 4 Firm. Catherine joins Deloitte’s security and privacy team.

Murray Patchell has 36 years’ experience in the management of investment trusts, charities and estates and has built considerable expertise working with Māori business and iwi.

John McRae has over a decade of CEO and director experience, leading and developing organisations that continue to be leaders in their industry today. Located in Rotorua, John is passionate about Māori business.

Steve Law is an experienced consultant with particular expertise helping clients manage complex, large-scale and multifaceted business transformation programmes.
