Sir Ian discovers Moa in New Zealand

Sir Ian discovers Moa in New Zealand

You could be excused for thinking most beer knights are associated with big breweries. Not so cricket legend Sir Ian Botham who is going in to bat for New Zealand craft brewer Moa.

Renowned for his all-round ability on the field, Sir Ian is now using his impressive hospitality connections to pitch Moa to international markets, particularly in the UK.

Moa Brewing Company CEO Geoff Ross says Sir Ian was introduced to the brand at the 2013 NZPGA in Queenstown.

“He was in New Zealand to cover the English cricket tour earlier in the year and Sir Ian used that time to take in his other love - golf at the NZPGA. It was there he sampled a few Moas,” Mr Ross says.

“We were a sponsor at the tournament and Sir Ian and some of the Moa lads had a tasting session with the range. Sir Ian was impressed enough to want to know more and in time he offered to work with Moa as it expands internationally.”

Joining the Moa Brewing Company as an ambassador, Sir Ian says he’s looking forward to helping Moa grow the brand in the UK.

“Moa know how a beer should taste and I’ve enjoyed a few of them so I can say that with confidence! They have a great range, my favourite is the Pale Ale with its citrus and malt flavours. I’m really happy to be involved with them,” Sir Ian says.

“Sir Ian is internationally respected, particularly in cricketing nations, not only for his prowess on the pitch but also his massive network in the hospitality scene.

“He is a great figure to help open doors and we will be working alongside Sir Ian particularly in the UK to build new listings. His huge social media following will be big for Moa there and also across international markets,” Ross says.

Mr Ross also says the agreement involves Sir Ian becoming a Moa shareholder.
