Business Forum welcomes resumed Korea FTA talks

NZ International Business Forum welcomes resumed Korea FTA talks

The New Zealand International Business Forum (NZIBF) today welcomed news from Korea that negotiations for a free trade agreement with Korea would be resumed.

NZIBF Chairman Sir Graeme Harrison said, “New Zealand enjoys a substantial relationship with Korea which was forged in the conflict on the Korean peninsular and today encompasses significant political, economic and people-to-people links.

“As Korea expands its network of FTAs with other partners, New Zealand risks being put at a severe disadvantage in the Korean market. The resumed FTA negotiations will allow us to level the playing field and provide a basis for expanded trade and investment with one of Asia's most dynamic economies.”

Prime Minister Key met Korean President Park Geun-Hye in Seoul and discussed the resumption of FTA negotiations.

“We congratulate President Park and Prime Minister Key for seizing the moment in this relationship and look forward to our negotiators meeting very soon to take forward this important work,” said Sir Graeme.
