Double-header for Electricians in Hamilton with Challenge and Expo

Top apprentices will contest national competition finals alongside latest electrical trade innovations.

Hamilton’s Claudelands Event Centre will be the venue for the 4th annual ECANZ & etco ElectroTECH Expo for electricians from Waikato and CNI region this coming Wednesday/Thursday (14th/15th August).

From feedback at previous expos the show has been extended to a two-day event, a first for the North Island ElectroTECH expo.

Mike Barr, ECANZ Waikato branch president, says “People have asked us to extend the expo to a two-day expo so that they have the opportunity to see more and come back again.”

This year has seen more stands sold as the expo grows. “We've got more stands for you so there are more new tools and technologies to help you work smarter and provide better services to your customers,” said Mr Barr.

He added, “We've once again combined with the ECANZ Challenge finals. The ECANZ Challenge runs both expo days and you will be able to see New Zealand’s top apprentices competing in the centre of the expo.”

The ECANZ Challenge is an electrical industry initiative to find the most outstanding individual with a flair for either domestic/commercial or industrial work. More than 100 apprentices enter each year.

At stake are thousands of dollars in prizes, including three scholarships to the life-changing Outward Bound course sponsored by The Skills Organisation (New Zealand's electrotechnology ITO), and the coveted Apprentice of the Year Award.

The Skills Organisation’s head of specialist trades Paul Hollings said the event was a key date on the industry training calendar.

“It’s great to see the cream of the emerging New Zealand electrical crop come together to compete and to be recognised for their outstanding skills,” Hollings said.
