Trakka Celebrates 40 Years By Being the Best of the Best

TRAKKA, the Australian motor home company whose products are used by thousands of New Zealanders keen to explore Australia in luxury, is celebrating 40 years of providing the perfect motorhomes by winning the ‘Best of the Best’ trophy in the 2013 Caravan & Camping Industry Association NSW Awards of Excellence.

Nor was the Best of the Best award the only title that TRAKKA added to its already bulging trophy cabinet, with the company also collecting the 2013 title for Best Manufacturer of Motorhomes and, with a clear eye on maintaining its position at the head of the Australian Recreational Vehicle industry, company trainee Yannick Sottaz was awarded the prize as ‘Rising Star’ of the industry. With company settled in the bush at Mount Kuring-gai north of Sydney, it’s no surprise that it was also a finalist in the Environmental section of the 2013 Caravan & Camping Industry Association NSW Awards of Excellence.

“The awards won by TRAKKA at the 2013 Caravan & Camping Industry Association NSW’s  Awards of Excellence are a testament to the outstanding professionalism of this leading Australian manufacturer and retailer of leading RV products,  said Lyndel Gray, Chief Executive Officer of the Caravan & Camping Industry Association. “With a member of a staff winning the award for the industry’s rising star and their nomination in the environmental awards, TRAKKA is also, clearly, a company that is planning for the future and designing motor homes that will meet the future needs of their owners. The TRAKKA Team’s demonstrated excellence in customer service, outstanding product knowledge and attention to detail is what the industry needs to enable it grow and attract new customers to the pleasures of motor home ownership.”

TRAKKA has built its unique reputation on innovation, creativity and durability and, in doing so, has produced a range of motorhomes that not only are ideally suited to Australian conditions, they are also tailored to their customers’ specific needs and are built to level of design integrity and build quality that enables their products to be compared favourably with motorhomes produced around the world.

“There could be no better way of celebrating our fourth decade than being elected as Best of the Best,” says David Berry, Managing Director, TRAKKA, “and what is particularly gratifying is that the trio of awards show that we produce the best motorhomes, we have a solid, well run business and, with the success of Yannick, we are building a secure and strong future for the company, our team and our customers.”

TRAKKA works with three base vehicle manufacturers that enable them to meet their exacting requirements. A long running relationship with Volkswagen has provided a number of generations of the Transporter to be converted into compact motor homes which has lead to the present TRAKKAdu range of motorhomes. Fiat provide the Ducato, a uniquely versatile base vehicle designed very much with the motor home industry in mind, that is converted into both van and coach built motorhomes and which has provided TRAKKA with unmatched scope to develop their creativity in design. Completing the family is Mercedes Benz which, with the TRAKKA Jabiru, offers the largest van-based motorhome and the option of four wheel drive.

“It is the availability of four wheel drive that has become one of the major changes of the past decade and which has really tested our design and construction skills,” says Mr Berry. “Motorhome owners have become much more adventurous in where they want to travel to and how long they wish to stay there. This means that four wheel drive has gone from making it easy to get across a muddy or sandy camp site to offering real all-terrain ability that enables a fully equipped motorhome to get to the most remote spots. Of course to maximise the ability to get to these remote spots, the motorhome has to be fully self-supporting and be able to do so for extended periods of time. This means that everything we design and build into these motorhomes has to be able to withstand the rigors of off road and all-terrain driving and we have to integrate the latest technology to enable a motorhome to offer all its features with no outside support.”

This means that joining the TRAKKA motorhomes that have been a regular sight on Australian roads for 40 years are TRAKKA motorhomes crossing remote areas, climbing sand dunes and fording rivers that were previously the preserve of all-terrain cars and taking with them the comforts and even the luxuries of home.

The past 40 years has also seen a major growth in the motor home industry, of which TRAKKA, as one of the founding companies in Australia, has been at the heart. That they plan to maintain this role is indicated by the prize for one of their youngest team members, Yannick Sottaz, as the rising star of the industry.

“There may be more customers for motorhomes, but there is also considerably more competition than there was 40 years ago,” explains Dave Berry. “This is why we work to ensure our designs are at the cutting edge, why we maintain very close contact with our owners so we can respond to their changing demands and why we are training new team members in all areas such as Yannick to bring fresh ideas and to drive our business forward. It is even why we are at Mount Kuring-gai, surrounded by the bush, rather than in some soulless industrial estate which would be the normal place for a commercial business. All our team, whether they are designing and building the our motorhomes, or talking to our customers, are surrounded by the authentic Australian bush makes people want to get behind the wheel of TRAKKA and explore Australia, and this inspires and informs everything we do.”
