Christchurch, Sept 26, 2013—FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYS: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has completed its sixth annual FedEx Cares Week in the Asia Pacific region. On 21 September, 9 volunteers from Christchurch teamed up with Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park, a lowland freshwater wetland, and got their hands dirty to help plant trees. The park supports a healthy population of wildlife and plant species and is used for recreation purposes and nature studies from many educational groups.
From September 7-15 over 1,000 FedEx Asia Pacific volunteers committed more than 4,000 hours in 36 community activities and made a difference in people’s lives. With a global theme of “Uncommon Heroes, Common Good.”, this year’s projects included cleaning up parks and coastlines, preparing and distributing meals for the needy, providing care for disadvantaged children, and promoting environmentally responsible behavior.
“FedEx is committed to sustainability and believes in giving back to our local communities through action. I am proud of our employees and their family members who have embraced this spirit of volunteerism by doing their bit to help preserve the environment in New Zealand,” said Kim Garner., Managing Director, FedEx Express Australasia.
FedEx is committed to building strong local communities and FedEx Cares Week is just one of the many ways that FedEx supports the communities where employees, contractors, customers and team members live and work.
Since FedEx Cares Week first launched in the U.S. in 2005, it has expanded to more than 40 countries and territories around the globe. Together, FedEx volunteers around the world will donate thousands of hours of their time to serving local organisations.
