Maiden of Milford Makes Pita-Sized Splash

Media Release    7/10/201

Maiden of Milford Makes Pita-Sized Splash

New Zealand is set to receive its first international quick service restaurant franchise on a boat at the end of October, in a joint partnership between JUCY Cruize and rapidly-expanding healthy pita chain Pita Pit.

The partnership means that JUCY Cruize’s boat, the Maiden of Milford, which will embark on its maiden voyage this weekend, will be able to offer passengers fresh, handmade pitas and salads made-to-order from a tempting menu of highlights - including chicken, falafel, lamb, beef, ham and vegetarian, as well as breakfast pitas, fresh fuel smoothies, cookies, brownies and crisps.

JUCY Cruize General Manager Rob Burnell says that the Maiden of Milford, which was purchased earlier in the year and named by JUCY’s Facebook fans during a June social media competition, will double the cruise line’s passenger capacity to 200.

“A new Maiden’s come to stay at Milford Sound and she’s all scrubbed-up and ready to cruise from this weekend! The launch of the Maiden of Milford is in some ways, the close of an incredible chapter and year for Cruize, but we are immediately embarking upon another exciting adventure with the opening of New Zealand’s first Pita Pit on a boat.”

Burnell says that JUCY Cruize looked at several food options for customers, settling on Pita Pit because of its popularity among Kiwis and philosophy of “fresh thinking, healthy eating”.

“We offered free tea, coffee and muffins on our old boat, the Milford Adventurer but the Maiden of Milford comes with full catering facilities. It means we can offer passengers fresh, cooked food. We looked at offering similar food options to other cruise operators but our customers made it clear that they didn’t want a tired international buffet. Instead, they were seeking three things: freshness, convenience and healthy choice.

“Pita Pit ticks all three boxes and they’re a global brand loved by Kiwis and international visitors, so for us, the partnership was an obvious next step,” he says.

Pita Pit NZ Director Chris Henderson says that the partnership with JUCY is a natural progression for the fast growing business.

“We love the idea of having New Zealand’s first international food franchise on a boat. Often when you’re travelling and sightseeing, what you want is a reasonably-priced, nutritious meal that’s made fresh with ingredients you can see. I believe all JUCY Cruize customers will be impressed with the quality and just as importantly, the tastiness of our pitas. Pita Pit is popular with everyone, from adults to families with young children, and you can adjust the ingredients to suit different tastebuds and most diets.”
