Workshop Shows Writers How To Get The Jump on Writer’s Block

~ Media Release ~

For Immediate Release: 9th October 2013

Workshop Shows Writers How To Get The Jump on Writer’s Block

Award-winning Auckland writer and tutor Kathryn Burnett is running a unique writing workshop that helps kick writer’s block to the kerb. Kathryn runs her Kickstart: Writing Workshop twice a year and says it differs from your usual “how-to” writing workshop in that the focus is on “getting your project on the page.”

“It sounds odd but for some writers there’s a real anxiety about getting a project started. For others they start just fine but lose their way and get stuck. My workshop has a productive, practical rather than theoretical focus and is designed to get participants past these barriers and their project up and running.”

Kathryn is a screenwriter, published author, playwright and has been putting pen to paper for over 18 years so she has more than a passing acquaintance with writer’s block. She has numerous film and television credits - her script editor/consultant credits include Devil’s Rock, Love Birds, Dean Spanley and the award-winning short Poppy among others. She currently has a play and four feature film screenplays in development.

She is also the writer of the multi-award winning animated short film Shelved which picked up the award for Best Animated Short at the New York Film Festival earlier this year. She is currently adapting the short film script into a feature length film with the short’s director James Cunningham.

Testimonials:

"This session has been wonderful in helping to crystallize ideas for my next project. Can't recommend Kathryn's courses enough." - Louise Ryan - English & Media Studies Teacher

"After sitting down for a day, my neurons are firing, my hand is sore and the plot of my novel is nearly complete. As a copywriter and blogger I write for money everyday, but this workshop was 100% worth the time to advance my personal project. Kathryn is professional, respectful and precise. She gave me a sterling process to build my plot, and l was able to go home and churn out some work I truly rate. Great writers don't always make great teachers but this one's got the goods." - Emma Harrison-Clark – Copywriter/Blogger

"Kathryn has an elegant way of demystifying the creative writing process while maintaining the magic. Importantly at the end of the course you'll come away with a tangible plan of attack to put in place at once and the desire to go with it." - Helena Ashcroft – Publicist/Business Owner
