The Spa at QE Health Is Rotorua’s Hidden Gem

The Spa at QE Health Is Rotorua’s Hidden Gem

There isn’t a better place to unwind than on the picturesque shores of Lake Rotorua but that is exactly what the Spa at QE Health offers.

An internationally recognised Health Spa with a full range of balneotherapy treatments that compliments its existing interventional services the Spa at QE has highly qualified and well trained message therapists who offer therapeutic, sports, deep tissue, pregnancy, manually lymphatic drainage as well as the relaxation massage in a friendly and personalised atmosphere.

Balneotherapy is thought to promote healing by increasing circulation, encouraging detoxification and easing stress. In addition the minerals found in hot springs such as sulphur and magnesium are said to fight off illness by nourishing the organs and stimulating the immune system.

The Spa at QE is a genuine geothermal health spa, so anyone seeking a relaxing, healing experience can enjoy the therapeutic benefits that rheumatology patients have appreciated at QE Health for decades. You will get the chance to unwind in a warm mineral pool, immerse your body in a warm nourishing liquid mud bath, or benefit from a therapeutic massage delivered by well-trained hands. The Spa at QE certainly offers it all!

A must try for anyone visiting the Spa at QE is the Aix Massage. This relaxing massage is performed with the use of oils and gentle flowing strokes, under jets of warm thermal water from the Rachel Spring. The water is heated to body temperature, and works in unison with the therapist, allowing you to enjoy the combined benefits of warmth and massage therapy at the same time.

Any trip to Rotorua will not be complete without a mud bath. Now this isn’t the kind of mud you played in as a kid. Rotorua mud is very high in minerals due to its contact with the volcanic gases and minerals from the earth’s centre. Because of this high mineral content the mud stores heat easily when it’s warmed, which makes it ideal for heat treatments. Each mud bath is individually prepared for the client at The Spa at QE and contains liquid thermal mud mixed with mineral water from the Rachel Spring.

Beauty treatments are also offered using products from the world recognised Thalgo range and local company Pure Source (incorporating Manuka Honey and Volcanic Mud).

The QE complex in Rotorua has a long history beginning in 1942 when QE Health was the Services Convalescent Hospital providing rehabilitation to soldiers returning from World War II. A daily programme of therapy included exercise, counselling, recreation, occupational and physiotherapy plus balneotherapy or spa treatments.

The Spa wing was built in the early 1960s as the direct successor to the original Bath House, now the Museum in the Government Gardens

QE Health continues today as a treatment centre for people with all forms of arthritis and chronic pain. People can attend over several days on a programme, or simply come for a “healing experience” as time out from a busy day of sightseeing whilst visiting Rotorua.
