Kellog NZ Voted Best Small Workplace

Kellog NZ Voted Best Small Workplace

The local division of Kellogg (Aust) Pty Ltd has won the Best Small Workplace category of the Kenexa Best Workplace Awards announced in Auckland on 31 October.

Kellogg business unit leader and New Zealand sales director Esme Borgelt says communication is the key factor behind the company’s success.

“People are listened to and respected and while we do tend to over communicate it does ensure everyone is on the same path.

“Our systems are the spine if you like that ensures messages about performance, initiatives and programmes reach all parts, including those who work offsite.”

Kenexa Best Workplaces is New Zealand’s largest annual workplace climate-employee engagement survey and the responses are collected and collated by Kenexa, an IBM company. Organisations are then ranked based on their overall performance index in five size categories.

Kellogg markets and sells a range of breakfast cereals and snacks including such well-known brands as Nutri-Grain, All-Bran, Special K and more.

Borgelt says the business is guided by principles called K-Values.

“K-Values really are part of the company DNA and through them we have developed a vibrant company culture where ideas are fostered, people can grow and success is celebrated.

“The team shares in each other’s successes and that encourages the search for and development of innovative ways of doing things even if the answer is a little quirky – something we are known for,” Borgelt says.

Manager effectiveness and work-life balance are the two areas of focus for Kellogg in New Zealand. Giving to the community and the company’s annual internal awards programme are two valued initiatives, she says.

“It reaches right down to things such as celebrating birthdays, a coffee club and health and wellness programmes.”

Borgelt says the survey is extremely valuable in that it provides an opportunity for staff to reach out to the leaders of the business and for the leaders to gain insights that help decision-making.
