New New-Zealand Based Marketing Manager for Niue

New New-Zealand Based Marketing Manager for Niue

4 November 2013 - As a signal of Niue Island Tourism’s commitment to the New Zealand market and in recognition of the increased visitor numbers, Niue Island Tourism has appointed well-known travel identity Jo Kennedy to the New Zealand based role of marketing manager.

Based in Auckland, Jo will be responsible for further developing this key market and will report directly to newly appointed Director of Tourism Niue, Vanessa Marsh based in Niue.

Vanessa expressed her enthusiasm saying “This is a great opportunity to develop and implement ideas to open up new travel markets in New Zealand; we are excited about what lies ahead.”

Jo is well known in the aviation and specifically the Pacific travel industry. For many years at Air New Zealand in the role of Pacific Product and Pricing Manager in the airlines market development team. Jo has been working directly with the Pacific for around 12 years, and says it has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember as her father travelled extensively through the South Pacific, returning home with tales of luscious lands and warm smiling people.

Of her new position Jo says “The groundwork has been done to lead Niue along the road of tourism success. I very much look forward to continuing that journey and growing the market at a sustainable rate that makes sense to the economy, ecology, people, heritage, and spirit of Niue and her people.”

Jo made her first trip to Niue on Air New Zealand’s inaugural service back in 2005. Whilst Jo’s first touchdown in Niue did not afford her time to explore the island, this opportunity did come up earlier this year when Jo took part in a product managers famil on Air New Zealand’s inaugural additional service to the island. Like many first time visitors to Niue, Jo too wondered why it had taken her so long to get to the ‘rock’ and yes it did ‘rock’!

Jo was taken with the quality of the Island’s accommodation offerings as well as enjoying a surprisingly diverse range of food and beverage options, but most of all was the hospitality of the people. “It’s true what they say about Niue, you arrive a visitor and leave as a friend.” It is the spirit of Niue, together with the vast array of tourism experiences on, under, and off the water that Jo is looking to place front of mind with New Zealanders looking for a truly authentic Pacific Island holiday.

Tourism Development Manager Hayden Porter finishes this month after a three and a half year posting. Hayden says “This is an exciting time for Niue and the travel industry, as we have seen an additional 2,000 visitors this year and I am confident Niue can build on this number in years to come.”

Describing the Island as being like “one big resort”, Jo picks Niue’s ideal holidaymaker as being “young at heart with a love of nature and the outdoors.”

New Zealand sales agent, Hogan and Associates will retain their general sales role in New Zealand and Niue Island Tourism will continue to be represented by Richard Skewes at Precise Travel Marketing in Australia. Jo will work closely with both companies in her new role.
