$60 Million Expansion of SCA Kawerau Tissue Site On Track for January Completion
A $60 million expansion of SCA Hygiene Australasia’s tissue manufacturing site in Kawerau, Bay of Plenty, is on track for completion by the end of January 2014.
SCA currently employs just over 200 people in Kawerau where it manufactures tissue used in leading brands such as PurexTM, SorbentTM, HandeeTM, and TorkTM.
Heading into Christmas, SCA Hygiene Australasia President, Peter Diplaris, says that the upgrade is over 90 per cent complete and represents the largest investment in the site’s history.
“An enormous contribution by the onsite team over the past 18 months has seen more than 125,000 hours of work safely carried out to house and install advanced technology available for manufacturing tissue,” Mr Diplaris said.
“When fully complete this expansion will effectively secure our future as a leader in sustainable tissue manufacturing and help us better serve our customers and consumers on both sides of the Tasman,” Mr Diplaris continued.
SCA’s Kawerau site is one of the largest employers in the central Bay of Plenty town and is recognised for its strong commitment to health, safety and training.
The new tissue manufacturing facility is expected to be unveiled to customers, employees and other guests in late January at an official opening ceremony.
