Beef + Lamb New Zealand Seeks Beef Industry Ambassador

Beef + Lamb New Zealand Seeks Beef Industry Ambassador

Do you have what it takes to represent New Zealand beef on the world stage?

Beef + Lamb New Zealand is giving one young beef producer the chance to attend the Five Nations Beef Alliance conference and young leaders programme in the USA this October.

The scholarship is open to New Zealanders aged 22-32, who are working in and can demonstrate a passion for the beef industry and its future direction.

This is the fourth year Beef + Lamb New Zealand has offered the scholarship. It covers all conference-associated expenses, including airfares and accommodation.

“We’re expecting a strong line-up of candidates vying for the opportunity to represent New Zealand beef on the world stage,” says Doug Macredie, Beef + Lamb New Zealand project manager, sector capability.

“Past winners Richard Morrison (2011), Peter Fitz-Herbert (2012) and Lauren McWilliam (2013) have all been great ambassadors for New Zealand and – while it’s an exciting opportunity for them – it’s also an investment in the future leadership of our sector.”

The Five Nations Beef Alliance is made up of the national organisations that represent beef cattle producers in Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States. It meets annually to develop strategies to encourage growth in global beef trading, and address any mutual concerns.

The young leaders programme will provide the winner with an opportunity to meet other young beef producers in a series of visits to farms, feedlots and sale yards, as well as attending conference and roundtable sessions to observe how producer representative organisations can collaborate for the benefit of all beef producers worldwide.

This year’s conference and young leaders programme take place in Corpus Christi and Austin, Texas from 4-11 October. The winner will be required to report back to New Zealand beef farmers on what they have learned.
