Experienced new manager for Quality Oceans Hotel

The Ngātiwai-owned Quality Oceans Hotel has secured the services of a highly
experienced new manager, Craig Walker, who comes to Tutukaka from his previously role as resort manager in Wanaka.

The hospitality specialist who originally hails from South Africa believes in “pleasing guests rather than talking about clients” says he is excited about taking up his new He brings with him over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry and says he has some initial ideas in driving up business at the picturesque hotel.

“The hotel is located at a very beautiful place and I think there are quite a number of opportunities to create a resort atmosphere there” Mr Walker says.

“I think the room-rates are very reasonable and I’d like to see Kiwi families use those rates and enjoy the spectacular scenery and the services the hotel offers.”

He says one of his goals is to achieve a triple bottom-line success.

“Apart from creating profits I’d also like to get the community involved and give something back to them while at the same time keeping our carbon-footprint as small as possible,” Mr Walker says.

“I do have some ideas but before you go about looking at making changes it is important get a feel for the hotel, the area and the people.

“I’d also like to build a good relationship with all the other local businesses, the community and the Marae that are in the area.

From a business point of view I would want to strengthen the ties with the Choice hotel group and see how we can build the synergies.”

Also among his initial priorities is to drive marketing and sales by promoting the hotel both locally and internationally on the tourism trail.

“I look forward to starting at the Quality Oceans Hotel and getting my feet on the ground there and driving the business.”

Mr Walker succeeds Steve and Sarah Shields in his new role.
