Lightbox serves up seven years of content in 14 days

Lightbox has today shone the spotlight on the success of its new online TV service in the first two weeks after launch.

“Just 14 days in, Lightbox is delivering on its promise to make great TV available to all New Zealanders,” says CEO Kym Niblock.

Data shows users watched a staggering seven years’ worth1 of TV shows in the first 14 days with viewing time growing by 50 per cent since launch. The Lightbox App became the number one free App to be downloaded from Apple iTunes just 48 hours after launch.

Results of a recent Ericsson survey2 confirm streaming of TV shows is catching up to linear consumption with only two percentage points separating the methods.

“The findings reveal a 25 per cent increase in viewers willing to pay for access to content that can be watched when they want to. More than 50 per cent of respondents said getting rid of ads was very important to them and almost half said they wanted all episodes of a TV series to be released at once. This further reinforces a growing demand from viewers to watch their favourite shows on their own terms,” says Niblock.

“Lightbox delivers on all of these points. It puts customers back in control of their TV viewing. And we’re just beginning; we’ve got a solid pipeline of exciting announcements to share in the coming months so watch this space.”
