ARANZ Geo celebrates 10 years of implicit modelling success

ARANZ Geo celebrates 10 years of implicit modelling success with Leapfrog®

CHRISTCHURCH, NZ, October 2, 2014 - ARANZ Geo, a world leader in the visualisation and interpretation of geological sciences for the mining, hydrogeology and geothermal industries, is celebrating ten years since the release of the company’s Leapfrog® 3D geological modelling solutions. A decade ago ARANZ Geo had a bold vision for a new approach to geological modelling using a powerful implicit modelling engine. This engine is the foundation for their Leapfrog software, to radically speed up the modelling process for geologists. Today, a decade after sparking a paradigm shift in the industry, the company’s 3D geological modelling software is an established world leader with thousands of users in over 50 countries.

ARANZ Geo’s CEO Shaun Maloney says, "I'd like to thank our customers over the past decade, our highly passionate ‘leapfroggers’, who took their geological models and the companies that relied on them to new heights. Their success fuelled demand for Leapfrog and has inspired continued innovation and our ambitious global high-growth business plan.”

Leapfrog’s success has seen ARANZ Geo’s revenues and customer numbers double year to year over the past few years. The company recently announced a significant private equity investment to continue driving and supporting innovation, as it embarks on its second decade in the market.

“We’re gearing up to further accelerate global expansion and product delivery as well as looking at strategic acquisition opportunities,” says Maloney.

ARANZ Geo’s R&D Centre and head office is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, with global offices in Australia, Brazil, Chile and Canada. Sales and support offices are also located in Denmark and South Africa. The company plans to open more offices this year to support continued global expansion.

ARANZ Geo's flagship 3D geological modelling software Leapfrog®, released to the market 10 years ago, looked at geological modelling in a new way by applying RBF technology (also known as implicit modelling). The result made the modelling process not only dramatically faster but also dynamic.

Maloney says, “When we first introduced implicit modelling to geologists it was a completely different approach. It allowed geologists to build models in hours or days and not weeks due to FastRBFTM, a superior form of Radial Basis Functions (RBF), an engine that creates surfaces directly from data.”

Maloney says, “We were surprised at how quickly the word spread and we grew exponentially to meet that demand.”

Leapfrog has set the standard in geological modelling and is relied on by many of the top mining and exploration firms to reduce risk associated with geological modelling.

“It’s not an add-on solution, it’s a purpose built implicit modelling tool designed to deliver significant value,” says Maloney. “The inbuilt workflows and tools are specific to geological modelling and harness the power of Leapfrog’s unrivalled engine.”

A clear goal for ARANZ Geo is to continue to excite geologists and make their jobs and lives easier.

Maloney adds, “We’re very focused on creating real solutions to real problems. As we ramp up global growth we’ll continue to develop Leapfrog as well as other thoughtfully designed innovative solutions.”

Maloney says interoperability with other market leading products is the key to future growth. “Our partnering strategy will see us working with companies that are also at the forefront of their respected fields in the mining, geothermal energy and hydrogeology industries. The focus is on bringing material benefits in speed, efficiency and risk management.”

The message from our clients is very clear says Maloney, “Slow cumbersome processes that aren’t dynamic are no longer acceptable. Customers want to be dealing with the most up to date information, faster, and integrated end-to-end. That’s what our partnerships and further innovation will deliver over the next decade.”
To mark Leapfrog’s 10 years in the industry the company is sponsoring the publication of an eBook “Unearthing implicit modelling” which can be freely downloaded from www.leapfrog3d.com/ebook
