Northpower receives national excellence accolades

Northpower employees have been recognised for excellence in the electricity sector.

Two of Northpower’s Cable Jointers claimed top spots in the annual Connexis Cable Jointers competition at Thursday night’s Excellence Awards Dinner held in Christchurch.

Tia Drodrolagi from Northpower East Tamaki was placed second in the Cable Jointing competition.

Steve Rathe from Northpower Warworth was the overall winner of the Cable Jointing competition.

Northpower Wellington’s Damo Hoffman's leadership skills were recognised when he received the award for Best Leader of a Line Mechanic Team.

Sam Hill from Dargaville, the Trainee with the Northpower Line Mechanic team, competing in the week-long event, received the Ross Archer Memorial prize for Best Trainee.

Topping it off, and firmly putting Dargaville on the map with the crowd at the awards evening, Derryn Cooper was awarded the prize for Distribution Line Mechanic Trainee of the Year.

The awards celebrate the most outstanding tradespeople and trainees in the electricity sector. “We are very proud of all of our people who took part” says Northpower’s General Manager of Business Support Barbara Harrison.

“This is good recognition for the commitment to working safely, the drive, skill and potential of people who have dedicated themselves to on-going study, personal development and up-skilling” says Ms Harrison.

“Tia, Steve, Damo, Derryn and Sam thoroughly deserve their awards; however, the calibre of all entrants was high. So even those who didn’t walk away with awards should hold their heads high with the recognition they received. They’ve done exceptionally well and from a Northpower perspective it is pleasing to see the development of so much talent within the company.
