HB Home & Garden Show Celebrating 25 Years of Success

HB Home & Garden Show Celebrating 25 Years of Success

25 years ago the Hawke’s Bay Home & Garden Show first opened its doors at McLean Park, Napier. Back in 1989, there were just 60 exhibitors, but since then the event has tripled in size. Jade Promotions, the Hawke’s Bay-based, family-run business that organises the Show, has grown too. That show was its very first, but the company is now New Zealand’s largest provider of home, garden and lifestyle shows, running nine other events nationwide.

Founding director, Anne Joll, says, “It’s been exciting seeing the business develop from one that I ran by myself from the kitchen table, to one that is now run from an office in Havelock North, where a team of 15 dedicated people help bring it all together. When my son and daughter joined Jade Promotions around ten years ago, they brought their respective skills and we have maintained a very ‘hands on’ management style. We now have decades of knowledge and experience behind us – we know what works and what doesn’t.”

“We’ve always strived to bring fresh ideas and quality exhibitors to the Show. It’s about making it easy for people to beautify their surroundings by providing variety, savings and ideas all under the one roof. We’re committed to ensuring that every visitor walks away feeling inspired and informed, hopefully with an armful of show-only bargains as well! We believe that holding true to these principles is what has made the Show the success that it is today.” Mrs. Joll says.

This year the Show will be back at McLean Park, where over 180 exhibitors will gather from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 November to create a one-stop event for anyone planning to build, renovate or revamp. Kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, appliances, landscaping, solar solutions, barbeques, spas and much more will be on offer, with something to suit every budget and taste. Visitors are encouraged bring along any plans they may have to discuss with the experts onsite, or may prefer to simply enjoy the latest in home improvement trends and gather ideas.

One lucky show visitor will also walk away a $5,000 bathroom package thanks to A. W. Holder. This includes the latest Englefield shower with water-saving, satin-jet technology, New Zealand-made Methven tapware, a designer vanity by St. Michel and a wall-faced toilet suite by Caroma. Show-goers need only provide their contact details on arrival to enter.

There will be two display gardens created by horticulture students from the Eastern Institute of Technology. Both groups will compete against each other with entries based on a ‘Begged, Borrowed and Built’ theme and the public can decide on the winner by voting for their favourite. One will be a Zen meditation garden with an inner circle sanctuary and Buddha; the other an elements garden showcasing earth, air, fire and water.

It’s not just an event for adults either, there’s fun for the whole family with the Resene Paint-a-Pot and Paint-a-Gnome Challenge on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am until 2 pm. An alfresco dining area will keep visitors refreshed and refuelled, and to make life even easier, there’s also free parking.
