New Agri One chief executive appointed

Lincoln University and Massey University are pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Williamson as chief executive officer of their joint venture, Agri One.

Mr Williamson was formerly domestic marketing manager at Solid Energy and has extensive management and marketing experience.

Agri One was set up in 2011 with a focus on the two institutions working together to create new market opportunities. It promotes research-led education to assist farming and agri-food industries and facilitates professional development courses, joint research proposals, and seminars and symposia in the area.

It also undertakes a brokering role to introduce agri-food businesses to academics at Lincoln University and Massey University.

Mr Williamson is a former student at Lincoln University, completing a Diploma of Wool Technology there, and also has an MBA from Victoria University.

He has also been the general manager of manufacturing and exporting business Foot Science International, the group marketing manager for Kathmandu, and filled various roles at the Wool Board and Wools of New Zealand in farm consulting, industry training, quality management, technology development and transfer, and international marketing.

He was raised on a farm in South Canterbury and farmed before entering the business world.

Mr Williamson said one of the focuses of his new role was to develop the range of professional development opportunities available in the agri-sector and ‘’establish Agri One and the two universities as one of the leading facilitator-providers, backed by their extensive expertise in this area’’.

He said agri-food and agri-business was ‘’probably the largest area of opportunity for growth in New Zealand’s future business landscape.

‘’This role is an opportunity to be at the forefront of development of the industry working with the leading players and future visionaries’’.

Agri One’s Chair, Emeritus Professor Pat Walsh, said he was delighted by Mark Williamson’s appointment.

‘’Mark has had a wealth of commercial experience from diverse sectors of the economy which he will bring to bear at Agri One. His background and expertise position him well to lead it through the next stage of the company’s development’’.

Mr Williamson commences the role on November 12.
