Pitstop Project Set to Make Bathroom Breaks More Beautiful

Local landscapes inspire Gull service stations

The most exciting bathroom experience may be in the place you least anticipated. Gull is raising the bar of service station loos by creatively renovating 14 of its bathrooms so far, with each renovation locally inspired.

Gull has uniquely refurbished 14 of its service station bathrooms, finally making pit stops on road trips something to look forward to. Each design was inspired by the community, environment or location that surrounds the service station.

Expect the unexpected when you walk in to these bathrooms. You’ll be taken on an African safari, a fresh water fishing trip, a scuba diving voyage, a road trip to Piha and into the Eden Park locker rooms, just to name a few.

“We wanted to delight our customers when they walked into our restrooms, and challenge Kiwis’ perceptions of service station bathrooms. A regular pitstop on every journey, the locally inspired designs are a great way to give travellers an insight into the local community,” says Ulrik Olsen, Commercial Manager, Gull New Zealand.

The renovations began in October 2013 and will be completed by early 2015 with another eight sites in line for renovation and further sites yet to be confirmed.

Auckland design company Amplifier took on Gull’s challenge to create experiences that were both engaging and unexpected.

“As a team we took cues from the location, environment and the local community of each site to create a visual that was both surprising and a perfect fit with the area,” says Sean O’Brien, Creative Director, Amplifier.

About Gull
Gull New Zealand is the independent, family owned oil company credited with keeping the fuel market competitive and delivering fuel savings to the Kiwi motorist. It offers real choice for motorists, which makes the market extremely competitive.

The company is a first mover, introducing innovative new products to the New Zealand energy market. These include low sulphur diesel and New Zealand’s first biofuel, Gull Force 10. Both fuels brought environmental benefits to motorists well ahead of the opposition. Gull’s “Drive Thru” outlets - with lower cost to develop and no staff on site - are another New Zealand first, bringing further value to the consumer.

Gull has a total of 60 retail outlets, including Night 'n Day Foodstores, independent Gull sites, marina installations and 17 Drive Thru sites. Geographically, retail outlets span between Whangarei and Masterton.
