Auckland Airport CEO New Chair of NZ Airports Association

7 November 2014

Auckland Airport Chief Executive Named as New Chair of NZ Airports Association

Adrian Littlewood, chief executive of Auckland Airport, has been appointed as Chair of the New Zealand Airports Association. He succeeds Steve Sanderson, Wellington Airport’s chief executive, in the role.

Mr Littlewood said he is looking forward to leading the association over the next 12 months.

“Airports are playing their part to drive growth in New Zealand’s travel, trade and tourism, while facing a number of challenges.”

“Our smaller regional airports are dealing with reductions in the number of flights servicing their local communities. Our larger international airports are seeking to remove barriers to growth so that New Zealand can take full advantage of opportunities provided by emerging economies in China, South-east Asia, India and South America, and stay one step ahead of competing airports overseas.”

“Regardless of their size, New Zealand airports are focused on providing innovative and quality passenger experiences.”

“Airports are also committed to making the statutory information disclosure regime work and to maintain fair pricing for the infrastructure assets they provide their airline customers.”

Mr Littlewood was appointed chief executive of Auckland Airport in 2012. Prior to this he was the airport’s general manager of retail and commercial business, where he led strong growth and development of non-aeronautical revenue. He joined the airport in 2009 and has a background in corporate law, strategy, marketing and management. He previously worked for Telecom New Zealand Limited, Baker & McKenzie and Bell Gully. Mr Littlewood is a director of North Queensland Airports and the Tourism Industry Association, New Zealand. He is also the co-chair of the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum.

NZ Airports’ chief executive, Kevin Ward, said he was looking forward to working with Mr Littlewood.

“NZ Airports is fortunate to have enjoyed strong leadership from very talented and committed chairs and Adrian’s appointment will continue that. We look forward to continuing to work to communicate and enhance the value the country’s national network of airports delivers to regional and national economies.”

NZ Airports is the industry association for New Zealand’s airports and related businesses. It is a not-for-profit organisation whose members operate 33 airports that span the country and enable the essential air transport links between each region of New Zealand and between New Zealand and the world.
