Marlborough Wine Show success: Villa Maria

MEDIA RELEASE
Monday 10th November 2014
Marlborough Wine Show success magnifies 35 years of Trophy wins by Villa Maria

“A very special evening” were the words of Helen Morrison as she and the team at Villa Maria absorbed the winery’s incredible success at the Marlborough Wine Show over the weekend. Winning six trophies and eight gold’s, Villa Maria continues to add to its impressive trophy and medal collection.

The pinnacle of the evening was being awarded the coveted Ol Glass Champion Wine of Show for the Villa Maria Estate Single Vineyard Seddon Pinot Noir 2012. This is the second consecutive year of winning this award, emphasising that its unique site together with expert vineyard management, produces fruit of outstanding quality. Villa Maria wines have taken out Champion Wine of Show in all 3 regional competitions, Marlborough, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay for two years running, a remarkable achievement.

The celebrations didn’t stop here however with the 100% family and New Zealand owned winery being awarded a further five trophies across four varietals and eight gold’s across five varietals, highlighting the excellence and breadth of wine the region produces, and the dedicated team who work tirelessly to ensure quality wine, year after year.

Helen Morrison, Villa Maria’s Marlborough winemaker, comments on the phenomenal success of the Seddon Vineyard with four trophies being awarded to this magnificent Terra Vitae site.
“These results showcase Marlborough’s diversity in varieties beyond Sauvignon Blanc, and especially highlights how gracefully our Villa Maria wines, such as the 2010 Taylors Pass Chardonnay, are ageing. To collect 3 trophies and wine of the show for Seddon Single Vineyard wines, demonstrates the aromatic intensity, depth of flavour and complex textural components that this single vineyard site has to offer.”
