Air New Zealand Wine Awards marvel over Esk Valley wines

Esk Valley continues to produce excellent wines in the Hawkes Bay, which repeatedly impresses wine judges and in turn, wins great awards. Three Pure Gold medals were awarded to Esk Valley at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards signalling the winery’s relentless commitment to quality wine, every time.

• Esk Valley Hawkes Bay Rosé 2014

• Esk Valley Gimblett Gravels Hawkes Bay Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2013

Esk Valley Hawkes Bay Rosé 2014 once again cemented itself as a hallmark New Zealand Rosé by winning a Pure Gold Medal.

“We love making Rosé and have done so since 1991, producing a wine that has long been regarded as the benchmark New Zealand Rosé. Being awarded a Pure Gold reiterates the quality of this wine.” Gordon Russell, Esk Valley Winemaker.

Esk Valley’s Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec, the wine many people know the winery by, does not disappoint. The acclaimed Hawkes Bay winery has taken out the Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot/Cabernet Blend Category more times than any other winery, confirming their reputation for this style of red wines. This also reinforces the excellent terroir of the Gimblett Gravels, the region from which this wine originates.

The country’s most renowned wine competition has been running for over 30 years, with Chair of Judges Michael Brajkovich MW passing comment on the standard of the entries as “outstanding”. Brajkovich and a panel of 26 esteemed wine experts judged the 1552 wine entries and awarded a total of 749 medals, 112 of which were gold. The elite gold medal and trophy winners will be announced at the awards dinner on the 22nd of November in Hawkes Bay.
