Millbrook Resort builder wins best show home

Media release from Millbrook
November 18 2014

Millbrook Resort builder AJ Saville Builder Ltd wins best show home

A Central Otago building company renowned for its award-winning homes at Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort has been named among New Zealand’s finest builders.

AJ Saville Builder Ltd won the coveted ‘Showhome of the Year’ award at the Registered Master Builders 2014 House of the Year awards – the seventh time the company has won a national award after making the finals a total of 12 times.

AJ Saville Builder Ltd has previously taken home the prestigious ‘Platinum Award’ in 2012, reserved only for the very elite of New Zealand’s building industry - those who have won five or more national awards.

Since its inception, only seven residential builders in New Zealand have received the ‘Platinum Award’.

Owner and founder Allister Saville said he was “delighted” to receive the latest accolade.

“Since starting work at Millbrook in 2001, we’ve built 44 homes with another five currently under construction,” he said.

“We’ve been national finalists 12 times and won seven national awards with Registered Master Builders so I’m thrilled to keep the momentum going and continue to be recognised for our work.

“I’d like to thank site supervisors Kurt Foster and Don Millar as well as all the sub-contractors who were part of the build. Their craftsmanship and consistently high standards has led to this success and award win.”

The winning show home is located in Taramea Square, a 12-home neighbourhood located within the heart of Millbrook’s Coronet 9 golf course. The home - named the ‘Ski Barn’ - was architecturally designed by multi-award winning Mason and Wales with the snow-sport enthusiast in mind.

The home exudes warmth and charm with its extensive use of natural materials such as timber and stone. The impressive entry foyer features local schist paving while the open-plan living area is rich with timber floors, ceiling and a feature wall.

The use of natural material has given the builders ample opportunity to showcase their carpentry skills as well as offer a low maintenance ‘homely’ ambience.

Millbrook’s Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley said show homes were working very well for Millbrook Resort.

“We’ve already sold one of these homes on the strength of people being able to physically see the quality of the workmanship for themselves,” he said.

“Once buyers have been in a show home to this standard they want it here and now. Particularly in a rising construction market, it gives surety for the owner to buy a home and land package and know exactly what they’ll get and what they will pay.

“The show home showcases a lot of craftsmanship in wood - ironic given that GIB was the sponsor of this category.”

Mr O’Malley said Millbrook was proud to have been associated with AJ Saville for the past 14 years.

“Having worked for so many years at Millbrook, Allister understands Millbrook’s expectation for quality and he and his team have consistently delivered on that expectation.”

Mr O’Malley said new home and property sales at Millbrook had already reached $4.3m within the first six weeks of its financial year.

Registered Master Builders’ acting chief executive Brendon Ward said the competition was a “fantastic opportunity” to showcase the country’s finest builders.

“Building excellence is central to what we do as Registered Master Builders and the impeccable workmanship and high standard of the homes entered in this year’s competition proves that quality is still our highest priority,” he said.

“We’re very proud to celebrate the work undertaken by the builders named as Gold Reserve finalists this year.”
