Retail trading figures show consistent sales for Hastings

Press Release – for immediate release

Latest retail trading figures show consistent sales for Hastings

The latest Retail Trade statistics have been released for New Zealand showing that the Hastings District has consistently upheld retail sales throughout each quarter since October 2013. The figures indicate healthy sales throughout the year. More importantly there had been an overall increase in retail sales of 1.3% for the Hawke’s Bay area on last year.

This figures illustrate that the retail sector is moving forward and that consumers are spending money in our stores. Whilst competition from online stores and overseas website continue to be a concern they do not seem to be significantly impacting on the retail industry as yet.

Susan McDade of the Hastings City Business Association said “in light of the fact we have had such a flat economy, these figures are really encouraging and show that Hastings retailers are holding their own against other cities. Increased vibrancy from the City Night Market as well the City Assist ambassadors making Hastings a safer place to shop may well have attributed to this. We are confident the new Grower’s Market will increase retail spend even further.”

Retailers are looking forward to a busy Christmas period in Hastings. Susan McDade said “Our retailers are ready for the rush and we are confident there will be an increase in spend on last year”.
