Online shopping faster and cheaper this Christmas
Mighty Ape and Click Monday make online shopping faster and cheaper this Christmas
Auckland-based online shopping site Mighty Ape is promoting its same-day delivery service to the three main centres on www.click monday.co.nz for “New Zealand’s biggest online sales day” this coming Monday.
Click Monday, on 24 November, is New Zealand’s version of the US’s Cyber Monday, and Singles Day in China – special online driven promotional days when retailers and brands cut prices and promote deals. Aggregated online sales days began in the United States with Cyber Monday in 2005, and have been copied in over 40 countries worldwide. The most spectacular example is Alibaba’s Singles Day in China, held on 11/11. Earlier this month Alibaba achieved $9.34bn in sales with over 278 million orders shipped and a peak of 2.85 million payment transactions processed per minute. Founder Jack Ma’s vision is to make Singles Day a global event by 2019.
Mighty Ape’s Dylan Bland said the company’s same-day delivery service to Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch was well-received by customers. “Our same day delivery service has proved hugely popular for customers who make impulse purchases and want to enjoy their new game, movie, book, toy and the like - right away. It’s also popular with customers shopping for last minute gifts, or customers who want to order on a Friday and be enjoying their product that evening or in time for the weekend”.
When a customer orders a product by 4pm in Auckland, Pace Couriers will get it delivered between 6pm and 8pm. The cut off time for same-day orders for Wellington and Christchurch is 1pm. As part of Click Monday, if a customer uses the service they will go in the draw to win 1 of 10 prizes of $100 worth of Mighty Ape vouchers.
Pace Couriers’ Strategic Programme Manager Brett Perkins said Pace, which along with CourierPost, is part of the New Zealand Post Group, will be providing this service for its customers right up to Christmas this year.
“People buying gifts and products from Auckland and getting them delivered in Christchurch, for example, on the same day is a very cool service. We’re expecting to solve a lot of last-minute shopping challenges this year.”
Click Monday spokesperson Cate Bryant said more than 1000 offers from close to 100 retailers will be on its website on 24 November. New on board this year are Adidas, Citta Design, The Baby Factory, Rodd & Gunn, Swanndri, Fly Buys, Trade Aid, Amazon Surf, Redcurrent, K&K and more.
“100 retailers was a personal goal for us, and we are super delighted to be driving additional sales for so many local retailers over both of our 2014 events”, says Cate Bryant, co-owner of Click Monday. “About 200,000 consumers visited Click Monday’s site in the first ever event last November, and spent over $2M with the 84 participating retailers.”
Ms Bryant said online
shopping continues to grow in New Zealand, both from
overseas sites and from domestic retailers which are
embracing internet shopping as a crucially important
channel.
The latest statistics from BNZ Marketview show online purchases by New Zealanders are up 13% year on year.
