Wholesale sales up but show mixed results
5 December 2014
Wholesale trade sales rose in the September 2014 quarter, Statistics New Zealand said today.
Seasonally adjusted total sales rose 0.7 percent, after a 1.8 percent rise in the June 2014 quarter.
“Results were mixed in the wholesaling industries this quarter, with three of the six industries having higher sales,” business indicators manager Neil Kelly said. “This contrasts with the June 2014 quarter, when all six industries had rises.”
The industries with
the largest sales movements in the September 2014 quarter
were:
• grocery, liquor, and tobacco product
wholesaling – up 1.1 percent ($74
million)
• motor vehicle and motor-vehicle parts
wholesaling – up 2.0 percent ($39
million).
The trend for total wholesale trade sales has generally been rising since the September 2009 quarter.
In actual terms, the value of total wholesale trade sales was $22 billion, up 4.3 percent from the September 2013 quarter.
