9 December 2014 - Countdown has opened a new store in Hauraki Corner on Auckland’s North Shore, creating 44 new jobs as part of its 70-strong team.

Store Manager Andre Ciseau says the new supermarket will offer Hauraki Corner customers a fantastic new and improved shopping experience.

“We’re really excited to be open for business – we know the community has been looking forward to our brand new Countdown offer coming to Lake Road and we’re committed to providing our local customers with fresh food, a modern shopping experience and great value for money.”

“I’m proud to be leading a team of 70 people, 44 of whom are brand new to the Countdown business. We've been working hard to get the store ready for opening day and we can’t wait to meet our new local customers,” he says.

Countdown’s Managing Director Dave Chambers says the company is delighted to support local job creation and career development with the new store opening.

“We’re a very proud employer of more than 6000 people in Auckland and it’s great to provide so many opportunities for new team to join our business, and start their careers in retail with us,” says Dave.

Located in the main Hauraki Corner shops, the new store has been designed in Countdown’s latest, new generation format and includes wider aisles and energy efficient fittings and equipment. It will also offer the popular Click & Collect service, where customers can order their groceries online and pick them up on arrival.

The store has worked with Hauraki Primary School to create tiles with the hand prints of 200 local pupils, which will be proudly displayed at the entrance of the store.

To help celebrate the opening, Countdown Hauraki Corner has a range of activities and local specials to welcome in the community. This will include Christmas recipe demos with Brett McGregor until 1pm, Santa in-store, grocery gift card giveaways, sausage sizzle and free samples on store opening day.
