Fiji Airways announce new route from Wellington to Nadi

Fiji Airways announce new, year-round route from Wellington to Nadi

Central New Zealanders will be able fly direct from Wellington to Nadi with Fiji Airways from 25 June 2015.

Today’s announcement by Fiji Airways and Wellington Airport provides travellers with the opportunity to fly direct to one of the most popular holiday destinations and connect onwards to North America – all year round.

“Fiji Airway’s will be the first airline to offer a year round service from Wellington to the Pacific Islands, an incredibly popular holiday destination with locals,” said Steve Sanderson, Wellington Airport’s Chief Executive.

Fiji Airways provide discounted fares for children and the flights will run at family friendly times arriving and departing around midday and operate twice per week.

Everyone can look forward to their winter escape from today as bookings for the flights are available now at www.fijiairways.com.

“We have worked with Fiji Airways for a number of years on the opportunity the Wellington market presents and are delighted they have committed to the region. This service will be in demand with travellers both here and in Fiji, for holiday makers and everyone visiting family and friends” said Mr Sanderson

Fiji Airways will provide connecting opportunities throughout the Pacific region, including Samoa and Tonga, giving Wellington’s Pacific Island communities more choice when travelling to or hosting family.

Mayor Wade-Brown said “it is an excellent connection and superb route to and from the United States - the introduction of the service is well timed given the international growth Wellington has experienced.”

Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, Stefan Pichler, said “the introduction of this new route reflects our commitment to the New Zealand market, and in growing our global network”.

Wellington residents travelling to Fiji and to the United States have grown by more than 20% over the last two years. United States visitors using Wellington as their New Zealand point of entry has increased by 35% over the same period.

“The new service to Fiji, which will add up to 34,000 seats to Wellington’s market, really demonstrates the demand and growth in international traffic to and from Wellington,” said Mr Sanderson.

The service will operate twice per week on a Thursday and Sunday. The flights will also allow Qantas frequent fliers to get more sun on their points. Passengers will be able to connect onwards to the United States on Fiji Airways’ brand new A330s and do it in style with a full service business class offering.
