Skilled job vacancies grew in November

Skilled job vacancies advertised online increased by 1.0 per cent for the month of November, and were up 7.8 percent in the past year to November, according to the latest Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Jobs Online report.

The monthly growth in online vacancies was shared across most industry groups. Overall, the accounting, human resources, legal and administration industries had the largest monthly rise (up 1.3 per cent), closely followed by healthcare and medical and hospitality and tourism (both up 1.2 per cent).

The number of vacancies for skilled jobs grew in most regions across New Zealand during the year. The biggest annual increases were in Otago/Southland (up 17.5 per cent), Bay of Plenty (up 17.2 per cent), Auckland (up 11.5 per cent), and Canterbury (up 10.0 per cent).

The Ministry’s Labour Market and Business Performance Manager David Paterson says the results show continued strength in the labour market.
