Canterbury Police urge business and bosses who are putting on ‘shout’s for their staff this Friday to plan ahead how everyone will get home safely.

For many trades and construction companies Friday is the last day of work and traditionally this has been marked with an end of year ‘shout’. With the lower alcohol limits in force Police urge staff and hosts to plan how everyone will get home safely.

Canterbury Road Policing Manager, Inspector Al Stewart, said “Canterbury Police are running their second alcohol focus activity in the lead up to the festive season this Friday. Additional Police staff are rostered on to run checkpoints across the City/District and anyone stopped, no matter what the time of day, will be breath-tested. Last week a driver at a checkpoint was caught over the limit, without a valid licence and with an open crate of Bourbon and Cola on the passenger seat. We urge everyone to reflect on their drinking behaviour and the potentially tragic consequences of driving while drunk.”

If you’re finishing work on site for the summer break make sure valuables are locked away out of sight and keys are not left in unlocked vehicles.
