Kiwi Icon Celebrates 20 years with return of Marmite

This month, the iconic New Zealand snack the Bakers Delight Cheesymite Scroll celebrates its 20thanniversary with the return of Kiwis favourite spread, Marmite. Now that Marmite is back in business, Cheesymites are once again “kiwi as.”

After three long years of “Marmageddon” following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, the loss of Marmite production made news headlines across the globe. Helped by the requests of Kiwi customers, the Cheesymite Scrolls has once again reclaimed its true Kiwi identity, and finally tastes the way it was intended.

“Over the past two decades, we have baked almost 3 million fresh Cheesymite Scrolls for our customers, and now that Marmite is again available in our bakeries, we feel that we can continue to offer the best flavour combination possible; Marmite and cheese is an institution,” says Milford Franchisee, Brad Fretwell.

Placed end to end, all the Cheesymite Scrolls baked in the past two decades in Bakers Delight New Zealand bakeries would stretch from Whangarei to Hamilton. This delicious distance would include a whopping 200,000kg of Marmite, and over 75,00kgs of cheese!

The return of Marmite to Cheesymite Scrolls furthers the long running culinary Kiwi-Aussie rivalry, and while the fight continues over who owns the Pavlova, the Bakers Delight Cheesymite Scroll is once again made better with Marmite, not Vegemite.
