2015 Set to be a Year of Adventure for Kiwis

Media Release
12 February 2015

2015 SET TO BE A YEAR OF ADVENTURE FOR KIWIS

Its official, demand for international travel from New Zealand is on the up with more Kiwis than ever packing their bags and heading off overseas. Latest figures from Statistics New Zealand showed that more than 230,000 Kiwis set off on overseas trips in December 2014, the highest-ever figure for a December month.

The United States, Europe and Australia are set to be the hottest travel destinations with Flight Centre New Zealand reporting a 40% increase in bookings to Los Angeles, 35% to the Gold Coast and almost 20% to Barcelona in 2014, compared to the previous year.

This is backed by international travel statistics from Statistics New Zealand, showing that the number of Kiwis travelling in December to Australia (up 3,700) and the United States (up 2,200) saw the biggest changes.

Flight Centre New Zealand’s general manager of retail, Sue Matson, said that “2015 is set to be a great year for travel. With the strength of the Kiwi dollar and a number of large sporting events taking place, we’re anticipating huge demand for UK and European airfares. She also said Australia and the South Pacific will be very popular with those who are looking to extend their summer.”

To help Kiwis book their 2015 holiday, Travel Expo, New Zealand’s largest travel show, is being held in Christchurch on February 15, 2015. Hosted by Flight Centre Limited, the annual Travel Expo provides travel information, holiday packages, cruises and exclusive flight discounts, all available on the day.
