Lovenotes hits 500,000 milestone

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 20/2/15

Lovenotes hits 500,000 milestone

Auckland-based thoughtful stationery company Lovenotes is halfway to completing its monumental milestone of reusing one million pieces of office scrap paper and transforming them into beautiful notebooks.

87 workplaces have so far signed up to the Lovenotes service, including Auckland Council, Frucor Beverages, Be Accessible, and social creative agency Curative. Most of the businesses are located in Auckland, but the idea is spreading around the country off the back of more businesses and schools wanting to join in The 1Million Milestone.

The collective impacts of this have resulted in 31 trees and 5 million litres of water being saved, along with the creation of more than 15,000 notebooks made from waste paper, and thousands of engaged New Zealander’s participating in the circular economy movement - a new industry of products and services designed to keep resources circulating optimally.

"We love the team, we love the initiative, we love how it's made us re-consider the true value of waste paper as well as refreshing it into beautiful, practical products and we love being part of a collective movement that's making positive social impact for our planet. Lovenotes. What's not to love?" says Jade Tang, Co-Founder & Director at Curative.

The company prides itself on reinventing product life cycles and creating delightful experiences for people to enjoy, and The 1Million Milestone is the culmination of that vision. “We were trying to come up with a way for our partners to see the collective impacts that they are making”, says Chief Landscaper Reza Fuard. “We thought, what’s a crazy goal that would be fun to work towards? What about reusing one million pieces of paper?”

“Lovenotes was the perfect way for us to reuse all our old letterheads when North Harbour Stadium changed it's name to QBE for sponsorship reasons. We have now signed up to the service and are collecting our own paper waste. It’s inspiring to know we are working towards the same goal alongside many other companies. Lovenotes is definitely helping generate the worlds most liveable city, so of course we’re proud to be part of it” says Suzy Randall of Regional Facilities Auckland.

The company started five years ago as a hobby project for founder Amanda Judd. “I was working in an office for a company that produced plenty of paper waste. So I collected up the scraps, transformed them into notepads back at my dad’s printing factory, and restocked the stationery cupboards back at work”, says Judd. “People then asked where they could buy them, and it evolved from there”.

Two years later, Judd tweaked the business model to improve the customer experience and Lovenotes now runs as a service. New companies signup and place their one-sided waste paper into collection boxes. This gets picked up by Lovenotes, made into stationery, then returned to the organisation to enjoy. One box of paper, which holds about 2000 sheets, is transformed into between 40 to 80 notebooks of varying sizes. The cover designs change seasonally to keep your desktop accessories looking fresh.
