Countdown
drops price of Homebrand Nappies long term
26 February, 2015: Countdown has dropped the price of Homebrand Nappies from $19.99 to $15 for all 44-60 pack nappies. From tomorrow, this range joins more than 970 other grocery items with lower prices every day.
Countdown’s General Manager Merchandise, Steve Donohue, says nappies are an essential for many shoppers and parents with babies and toddlers end up spending a lot of time shopping around for the best deal.
“As a father of three I know that nappies are a really significant cost for families, particularly when it’s a time when you often go down to one income.
“Now we’ve locked down the price of Homebrand Nappies parents don’t need to bulk buy when they see specials. Instead they have certainty that every week they can come to us for a really good quality nappy that’s also excellent value every day,” says Donohue.
Donohue says New Zealanders will save close to $1 million across a year with this long term price reduction on nappies.
The Salvation Army Secretary for Social Services Major Pam Waugh says that many parents struggle to make the budget work every week and that any certainty around expenses is a plus.
“Depending on how many nappies you go through they can cost families about $2.50 to $5 a day per child. That’s a big part of a weekly shopping bill for the families we see who have two or more children under four years old and are on tight budgets. Initiatives that help people save on essentials like nappies can really make a big difference for Kiwi families,” says Major Waugh.
The lower nappy price follows other price reductions on more than 970 everyday items over the last eighteen months at Countdown, including the very popular $1 Homebrand bread and other products like frozen peas, flour, tinned tomatoes, toilet paper, and baby wipes.
“We’re really proud to be making nappies cheaper. We’re not about offering a budget nappy at this price, but a quality product that parents can trust with their young ones.
“We’re committed to lowering prices for longer across our full range. We did it with $1 bread and we’re doing it again with nappies. We’ll continue to look for new ways to deliver savings to our customers.” says Donohue.
Homebrand 44-60 pack nappies are available in Infant, Crawler, Toddler, Walker and Junior variants.
