Used for everything, driven by everyone

PRESS RELEASE

30 March 2015

Used for everything, driven by everyone.

Launched at the Central Districts Field Days in March, Hino Distributors (NZ) Ltd are running a nationwide competition which will see lucky recipients upgrading their licences to either a Class 2 or Class 4.

In New Zealand the trucking industry is significant; transporting up to 90% of the country’s total freight - directly contributing to the economy. With predictions of domestic freight growing by 75% over the next 20 years, the industry is a competitive one – yet the Road Transport Forum has predicted the national truck driver shortage will worsen in 2015.

“At Hino, we’re all about the transport industry,” says Hino NZ’s General Manager, Ray Roberts. “That includes encouraging the next generation of drivers to join a rewarding and growing career option.”

Hino’s licence competition asks entrants why they want to get their truck licence, offering them the chance to win a truck licence package valued up to $1000. The prize includes logbooks (unit standard), theory, practical training and assessment with AMS Group.

AMS Group’s Lower North Island Area Manager, John Marcus says, “initiatives like Hino’s competition is a great way to set young people up to join the trucking industry correctly.” John will be training the winner of the CD Field Days’ draw, Louis Nyman. Louis is keen to get his licence so that he can start a business providing a portable rehabilitation facility for horses.

Other recent entries show how having a truck driver’s licence can help in an array of applications and business opportunities, from “wanting to be a stock truck driver”, “furthering my career in hay and silage contracts”, to “getting a class 2 licence so we can get a bigger truck”.

There are three more chances to win. The competition is running online throughout the year, giving everyone in New Zealand two chances to join the transport industry. Hino will also provide visitors to their National Fieldays site an opportunity to enter in June. Alongside the driver’s licence competition, they are also offering the chance to win Playmobil scenes from their interactive Fieldays’ radio control truck display.

Mr Roberts will present Louis his prize on Wednesday, 1 April at 10am at Hino Distributors (NZ) Ltd’s Head Office in Malden Street, Palmerston North.
