Opus Wins Prestigious Women in Construction Award in UK

Opus Wins Prestigious Women in Construction Award in UK

Infrastructure consultancy, Opus International Consultants (Opus) recently won the prestigious Staff Development and Training Award at the Women in Construction Awards in the United Kingdom.

The awards, which are in their ninth year, provide a showcase for the best and brightest achievers across the construction industry, and according to the judges, it was Opus’ range of development and training practices that secured the win.

“Initiatives like women in leadership, mentoring, and flexible working are positive signs - and not only attract women into construction - but also retain them, which is a massive problem in our industry,” said judge, Siobhan McMahon, National Chair of The National Association of Women in Construction.

The judges hope that the award will encourage other key players in the industry to change the way they approach training and development to support more women in the workplace.

“Opus is a leading light now and hopefully many more companies will look to these initiatives and follow suit,” added Siobhan McMahon.

This is not the first time that Opus has been acknowledged for its staff development in the United Kingdom. It has won multiple awards at events like the Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards and Constructing Excellence Wales Awards.

“This award is special. To be acknowledged specifically for our work for women is a fantastic achievement for us. It shows the whole industry that we are serious about raising the bar in this area,” said Dr David Prentice, Opus Chief Executive.

Opus runs a Women in Leadership program across its global operations which gives a voice to women and supports them to pursue, establish and sustain successful careers.

“Being recognised by this award is wonderful, and means that we are on track but we know that there is still much more work to be done to promote women in our industry,” said Alison Swan, Chair of the Women in Leadership programme at Opus.

Opus has over 3,000 staff across Australia, Canada, New Zealand, North Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
