Property Council welcomes new national president
Property Council is proud to welcome Peter
Mence, chief executive of Argosy Property Limited as its new
National President.
Mr Mence brings with him a wealth of knowledge from an engineering background, spanning 34 years of experience in the property industry working with Progressive Enterprises, Challenge Properties, Richard Ellis and Green and McCahill.
Mr Mence joined Armstrong Jones (New Zealand) in 1994 and was appointed General Manager of ING Property Trust in 2007. Instrumental in the rebranding and internalisation of the company’s management, he was appointed Chief Executive of the business in 2009. Mr Mence says his role as Property Council’s president will see him engaged on the many challenges facing the industry.
“I look forward to leading the Property Council in continuing and expanding its crucial role in policy and advocacy work, as the voice of commercial property in New Zealand.
“We have so many critical decisions to make for our country; the Resource Management Act reforms, seismic strengthening of buildings, development contributions, district and regional plans, Christchurch rebuild, housing affordability and land supply, and heritage stock.
“These issues carry the power to hold us back from the rest of the world, or launch us into the future where we can compete with our global partners. We need serious movement on all these fronts.”
Argosy Property Limited is one of the largest diversified property funds listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. It has a $1.226 billion portfolio of 66 properties across the retail, office and industrial sectors.
Mr Mence is a Fellow of the Property Institute and is a past lecturer in Advanced Property Management at the University of Auckland. In 2013 Mr Mence was honoured with the Stuart McIntosh award in recognition of his contribution to the University.
He takes over from Ngāi Tahu Property Limited chief executive, Tony Sewell. Mr Sewell has served as the National President of Property Council for the last three years, dedicating endless time and expertise to see the organisation grow its influence.
