Depot takes top prize at Metro Restaurant of the Year Awards
SKYCITY celebrates as Depot takes out top prize at Metro Restaurant of the Year Awards
With Depot taking out the Supreme Award and six Federal Street restaurants featuring in the Top 50, SKYCITY Auckland is today celebrating its success at the esteemed Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year Awards last night.
SKYCITY’s restaurants featured throughout the awards night with Al Brown’s Depot being named Metro Peugeot Restaurant of the Year and taking out the Best City Bistro Award. MASU by Nic Watt, Peter Gordon’s The Sugar Club, The Grill by Sean Connolly, Gusto at the Grand and Federal Delicatessen were also all finalists across a range of categories.
SKYCITY Auckland General Manager John Mortensen says SKYCITY is proud that Federal Street has once again been recognised as Auckland’s supreme culinary destination.
“With a rich history spanning 13 years, the Metro Restaurant of the Year Awards are highly respected and we are so pleased that the hard work that has gone in to making Federal Street a world-class food destination is being recognised year on year,” says Mr Mortensen.
“With six of our restaurants on the Metro Top 50 list, Federal Street really has proven itself once again. We are also extremely proud to see Gusto at the Grand recognised as a newcomer to the Top 50 just as it celebrates its one year anniversary.
“It is wonderful to see Depot win the highly coveted Best Restaurant award, and with repair work well on track following the recent fire in the restaurant, we hope to re-open doors within a week,” says Mr Mortensen.
Metro Editor Simon Wilson says the judges are especially pleased to award Depot the supreme prize in the wake of the fire it suffered just a few weeks ago.
“In a town where the quality of fine dining and smart
dining are both getting better every year, it’s remarkable
that a busy city bistro manages to match them every step of
the way. The food is terrific, the service is outstanding
and the atmosphere so exciting. Four years after it opened,
Depot is still the busiest place in town.”
