SPCA Auckland appoints new CEO

SPCA Auckland appoints new CEO

SPCA Auckland’s board is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Midgen as its new chief executive officer.

Board chairman Gordon Trainer said the board undertook a rigorous process to find the right person to lead the organisation.

“We know SPCA Auckland is a well-respected and trusted organisation with staff, volunteers, supporters, donors and partners who hold it close to their hearts,” says Mr Trainer.

“We’re delighted with Andrea’s appointment and are confident she will continue to build on the great work underway as well as introducing new initiatives to protect and care for Auckland’s animals.

“She joins us with an impressive mix of commercial and not-for-profit experience and the whole team is looking forward to working with her.”

Andrea said she is thrilled to be part of the SPCA Auckland team and is looking forward to getting to know the organisation and its people.

“I have been a supporter of SPCA Auckland for many years and have admired the work it does. Animals are such an important part of our families and society. To work in a role that is about protecting and caring for them is a huge honour. I have no doubt there will be challenges but am very exciting about making a contribution.”

Andrea started this week and replaces Christine Kalin who has led SPCA Auckland for around four years.

“Christine has made a tremendous contribution to SPCA Auckland and protecting and representing animals were always at her heart of her decisions. SPCA Auckland is in excellent shape thanks to her hard work, leadership of the team, sound judgement and commercial nous. The board wishes her well in her next endeavour.”

Andrea’s previous roles include senior positions at Southern Cross Healthcare, Vodafone New Zealand, Vodafone Group and chair of the Vodafone NZ Foundation. Roles span strategy, operations, finance and customer care. She lives in Auckland with her husband, son and dog, Max.
