The Wine Enthusiast Awards 90+ Points for Akarua Pinot Noirs’

Central Otago winery Akarua has received international recognition this week from one of the world’s leading wine & food publications, ‘The Wine Enthusiast’.

Akarua The Siren Pinot Noir 2012, Akarua Pinot Noir 2012 and RUA Pinot Noir 2013 were all awarded over 90 points, with their entry level RUA Pinot Noir 2013 securing the much coveted ‘editor’s choice’ *.

The Wine Enthusiast, is perhaps one of the most influential wine, food & spirit publications in the world. Founded in 1988, they have a monumental readership of 800,000 consumers worldwide. In 2014, they underwent a complete re-design and re-launch to address the growing, more mainstream culture of wine and spirits both internationally and in the United States.

This is not the only accomplishment for Akarua in the United States. In February 2015, Akarua was awarded GOLD for their RUA Pinot Noir 2013 at the TEXSOM International Wine Awards 2015 in Texas; another dominant breakthrough for Akarua in the American market.

Winemaker Matt Connell is thrilled by the news.

“The United States is a particularly difficult nut to crack in the world of wine, with extremely high competition both within the States and around the world. To receive such high recognition with one of the most influential magazines in the world is definitely a victory for us. We have only recently secured representation in the US so this will certainly increase our profile to the right customers”.
