China Business Awards Recognise NHNZ’s Contribution

China Business Awards Recognise NHNZ’s “Outstanding Contribution”

NHNZ’s win at the New Zealand China Trade Association Business Awards last week in Auckland was a thrill for the company, which has been working on television production in China for over 15 years.

At a ceremony that included some of the biggest names in the NZ China business community, NHNZ was awarded the Cathay Pacific Award for Outstanding Contribution to the New Zealand China Relationship.

NHNZ Managing Director Kyle Murdoch says the win is especially significant when considering the calibre of other nominees, “In terms of NZ and China trade, we are a small fish, but that doesn’t mean that what we have done in China is not significant.

“In the 15 years since NHNZ first entered China, we have established and significantly grown our Beijing Representative Office, and gone from producing one or two hours of factual content in China to the point where Chinese content is contributing to almost a third of our global forecast business – with 16 plus hours of documentary currently being co-produced with Chinese partners and another 16 hours in development.”

The award recognises not only NHNZ’s success in China, but the contribution NHNZ has made in fostering strong production relationships in China.

In November last year, New Zealand achieved an important milestone with China, signing the world’s first Sino television co-production treaty.

NHNZ is the first New Zealand production company to produce television utilizing the treaty.
