Budget 2015: Responsible and Business-like

Budget 2015: Responsible and Business-like.

The Government has presented a budget that operates within its income and invests in those parts of society that require support says Mark Futter, Chief Executive of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce

Promises from the past such as reducing debt to 20% of GDP and reducing ACC costs to business and the community are examples of this.

The budget indicates growth expectations of around 2.8% over the next 3 years which should give business confidence to grow and employ. A consequence of this will be expectations of low unemployment and this will obviously place pressure on New Zealand’s talent pool which will need addressing though immigration and investment in skills training.

The Chamber welcomes the funding for Regional Research which is a clear signal from Government of the need for regional economies to diversify.

We also welcome the additional funding for Labour Inspectors which will ensure the employment practices of businesses remains at a responsible level.
